Appendix III - Music Analytics Data

In evaluating the popularity of various songs associated with the solidarity movement for Ukraine, I consulted several music analytics tools, among which Soundcharts, Songstats and Chartmetric. In the following link, I attach weekly reports on Kalush Orchestra and Tom Odell, the musicians figuring in two of the case studies of this thesis. The data was provided through an email subscription to Soundcharts, from April 5 until July 30, 2022, with a pause between May 8 and June 11, 2022. I could not find any explanation for the break in the weekly notifications, and any more extensive statistics (that go further back in time) are not available on the free versions of the music analytics tools that I consulted. The following images, however, are also suggestive for the fanbase of Kalush Orchestra and Tom Odell during almost three months of the 2022 war between Ukraine and Russia.

Each weekly report is divided into the Audience, Airplay, and Playlists sections. The first one gathers data from several platforms (Deezer, Facebook, Instagram, Soundcloud, Spotify, Youtube) and adds up the fanbase of the analyzed artists. The second one lists the top 10 countries in which musicians’ songs were aired on national radios. The last one counts the number of playlists on various platforms, like Spotify or Deezer, in which songs from reviewed artists were also featured. Each weekly report compares the statistics gathered in its seven days with the ones from the previous week, indicating the percentages with which musicians’ popularity increased or decreased in these three categories.
